The storage and transport of medicinal products are subject to strict regulatory requirements. Good Distribution Practice (GDP) is a crucial component of pharmaceutical quality management, ensuring that product quality is maintained throughout every stage of the supply chain. With increasing regulatory demands and the continued globalization of distribution networks, documented compliance with GDP guidelines is more important than ever.
Many logistics activities within the supply chain are outsourced to service providers, such as transport and logistics companies. While companies that only perform transportation activities are not subject to direct regulatory oversight and do not require a Wholesale Distribution Authorisation (WDA), they are still expected to comply with the relevant sections of the EU GDP Guidelines.
For logistics service providers, external GDP certification can be a valuable tool to demonstrate compliance and commitment to quality standards. Commercial certifications offer a structured approach – but their reliability and practical relevance are increasingly being questioned.
